Big Eyed Beans From Venus lyrics

Originally appeared on Clear Spot

Distant cousins, there’s a limited supply.
And we’re down to the dozens, and this is why:
Big Eyed Beans from Venus! Oh my, oh my.

Boys and girls,
Earth people around the circle,
Mixtures of man alive.
Big eyed beans from Venus,
Don’t let anything get in between us.

Beam in on me baby,
and we’ll beam together
I know we always been together,
but there’s more.

Mister Zoot Horn Rollo, hit that long lunar note,
and let it float.

Men let your wallets flop out,
and women open your purses,
Cause a man or a woman without a big eyed bean from Venus
Is suffering with the worstest of curses
Yeah, you’re suffering, with the worstest of curses.

Put ’em out in the sun, and when the night come
You don’t have to go out and get ’em
They’ll glow with you
They’ll go with you
They’ll show with you
Ain’t no losers
Cause they’re on the right track
Cause they’re on the right track
You can be on the right track, woman,
Of course, of course

Ain’t no SNAFU, no fol-de-rol

Check these out, Big eyed beans from Venus
Oh, let a few out, let ’em pass in between us

Distant cousins, there’s a limited supply.
And we’re down to the dozens, and this is why…

Don’t let anything get in between us!

  1. After all these many, many years I have decided that THIS was the man’s masterpiece…

  2. Some minor corrections:

    mixture of man ‘alike’

    hit that long ‘leanin’ note

sufferin’ from a ‘waste, that’s the case’ ???

you can be on the right track ‘brothers’

  3. It’s about money, right? Big eyed beans from venus are coins. Wallets and purses portrayed as male & female genitals – one flops out and the other opens. Brilliant.
Always thought it was long looming note, but I’ll take lunar.

  4. I think its about aliens, just think big eyes from venus the beans part was just so it wouldn’t be obvious!!!!

  5. I do believe Big Eyed Beans From Venus is a reference to skinny-as-a-beanpole Bill Harkelroad, a.k.a. Zoot Horn Rollo, guitarist extroadinaire for Captain Beefheart, who was threatening to leave the band over royalties, and eventually did so. Key line, “don’t let anything come between us, Big-Eyed Beans from Venus. The song is noted for Zoot Horn Rollo’s guitar solo, a rarity on the Beefheart playlist.

  6. I always had it as long loomin’ note

    1. Nope, it’s lunar note … see Bill Harkleroad’s book title for confirmation!

  7. Isn’t it wonderful how you hear different things in Beefheart’s songs! I really think that’s a great part of his genius. I’ve always thought it was: “You’re suffering with the grace dislocation”!

    1. “You’re suffering with the grace dislocation” is what will always be to me.

      1. i always thought it was the woistest of coises, a cartoon way of saying the worstest of curses.

  8. I don’t think Don cared much for the creation of more people, especially not that he had to tear.

    For me the songs about…boobs.
