I have recently taken the plunge and become a freelance web designer and information architect. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and now the opportunity has arisen, I’m delighted.

My new professional website is now live (though still a little rough around the edges) and available at www.mode7media.co.uk I’ve just published my first blog post there called Keep It Simple Smarty-Pants about the importance of simplicity on the web.

Now that I am free of the 9-5 I have made a slow and gradual start redeveloping this site, beefheart.com. The current design is well over 10 years old and although it has served us reasonably well over the years, a total redesign and refresh of all the content is long overdue.

Don’t worry, all the good stuff is staying, it will just be much easier to use, nicer to look at, easier to update and hopefully the hideously wrong and out of date stuff will be weeded out.

It’s a slow process so don’t expect any surprises in the next few weeks; there are thousands of files on the site which need to be edited and moved to the new system; but something good is on the way.
