As part of their Complete Roots series, Snapper Music have released The Roots of Captain Beefheart. An interesting collection of 18 tracks. Read our review and see if it is what it claims to be!
Don continues to be name checked by new artists. The latest to claim him as an influence are Victoria Hesketh (aka Little Boots) and White Denim. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that influence can be heard ... San Franciscan lo-fi psych guitarist Ty Segall has gone one step further and covered Dropout Boogie on his latest album called Lemons.
And if you fancy a trip across to Youtube you can catch Herman Tulp doing a reading of Don's Brown Star poem. Keep an eye out for the related images that appear discreetly around the screen!
Yes, the Roots CD is available. It was released on 27 July. I had it pre-ordered at Amazon

spoke to White Denim at a recent gig of theres and what thoroughly lovely gents. they love their beefheart, and upon a listen of some of their stuff, it's more than just a name drop!

Check out this (slightly) kinder, gentler reassessment of Beefheart/Magic Band's Unconditionally Guaranteed at The Brown Tweed Society site:

Not the best album in their discography, but not worth being hated!
